LIRA: Bishop Joseph Franzeli of Lira Catholic Diocese flagged off the ‘last’ batch of pilgrims heading to Namugongo for Martyr’s Day Celebration slated for 3rd June this year.
On the 18th May 2017, at least 418-foot pilgrims left for Namugongo where they will be joined by other twelve that left on Monday.
Speaking to Red Pepper shortly after seeing off the pilgrims, Bishop Franzeli said the event has become a tradition to the Catholic Faith.
He said the pilgrims from Lira Catholic Diocese are representing about 1million Catholic Christians in Lango Sub Region as they prepare to celebrate the 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) due next year.
“A couple of years ago, pilgrims on bicycle were messengers of peaceful development; they planted trees at every area they stopped. Pilgrimage isn’t site seeing but praying for the souls of our Saints,” he said.
