Ugandan Parents in South Africa (Upisa) Health Walk

Ugandan Parents in South Africa had a Family Healthy Walk on Sunday 30th April 2023. More than a hundred people, parents, and their children in South Africa participated. The walk started at 08:00 am at Groenkloof Nature Reserve Park in Pretoria. Most families which attended the event were from Pretoria and surrounding areas while a few came from Johannesburg. The families from Johannesburg were the Ssemugabis, Sentongos, Bosas, and Bunnyas.

After the health walk, parents and children enjoyed playing together on swings, Horse ridings, etc. It was a bring, braai, and share event; Mrs. Judy Ssemugabi Bakyayita, Nalongo Kakooza, Hajati Ibra, Mrs. Sophia Sentongo, and Maama Hindu (Mrs. Nomsa Semambo Kalandalugu) handled the braaing and shared the foods among the attendees. Cool drinks were also shared.

We also had a moment for introductions and getting to know each family. The management committee was also introduced to all parents and children; these are:

13. Chief Adviser: Ssalongo Darul Kakooza

14. Provincial Representatives: Western Cape, Ms. Mayi Ssendegeya

15. Provincial Representatives: Kwazulu Natal, Mr. Ian Senyonga

16. Provincial Representatives: Gauteng, Chairman Moses Kibombo

We agreed on registration fees per family which are R200. We also plan to have two more health walks this year, a parents’ meet and greet, and children gathering. These will be communicated later on.

Our children enjoyed each other company and they are looking forward to another meeting. Thank you all for attending, looking forward to another gathering.
