Kabaka dedicates 2018 as year of coronation celebrations
Buganda kingdom has kicked off preparations for a whole year to mark the 25th coronation since they got a king. The Buganda kingdom premier (Katikkiro), Charles Peter Mayiga, said the Kabaka dedicated 2018 as a year of celebration for the marking 25 years as a kingdom with king. Kabaka Ronald Mutebi was installed king, at Buddo hill at the kingdom’s Naggalabi coronation site on July 31, 1993. This followed the restoration of the cultural institutions by President Yoweri Museveni, which had been abolished by the then President Dr Milton Obote in 1966. The installation ceremony was graced by President Museveni, various cultural leaders from different parts of the country, leaders from other parts of the world and religious leaders. Addressing the Buganda Lukiiko (assembly) at Bulange Mengo, Mayiga said the kingdom is to hold a series of activities throughout the year as part of the celebrations. All celebrations, Katikkiro stressed, will be focused on youth. “The youth will be the main focus and will take the lead in all preparations,” he added. Mayiga said they have already appointed the organising committee chaired by the kingdom’s second premier, Dr Twaha Kawase and deputised by Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa the kingdom’s finance minister.
